MCT vs Hemp Oil vs VG/PG – What do they do?

You’ve probably been curious what the extra ingredients in your CBD products are, what they do, and whether they can affect the quality or effectiveness of whatever products you’re looking to purchase. Aside from any additional flavorings or anything else included nearly ever CBD tincture contains a carrier some type of carrier liquid which is what the CBD is dissolved into when using isolate.

MCT Oil: Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are partially man-made fats. The name refers to the way the carbon atoms are arranged in their chemical structure. A common source of MCTs is coconut or palm kernel oil, as approximately two-thirds of the fatty acids in it are MCTs. MCT oil is a food-grade oil that acts as a great carrier for CBD or other cannabinoids as it can play a synergistic role with energy and brain function. MCT Oil is also completely tasteless and allows CBD isolate to easily dissolve leaving you with a perfectly clear tincture with no overpowering taste so it can be taken on its own or mixed in a drink.

VG/PG: Both VG and PG are two of the most common ingredients for e-liquid with and without CBD. VG/PG are both completely odorless with very minimal taste and a can be easily mixed with flavorings and CBD, also allowing the isolate to dissolve fully when done correctly. Both Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG) are considered safe and acceptable substance to be ingested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. In fact, both substances are part of many types of food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic products.

Hemp Oil: Derived from the seeds of the hemp plant, hemp oil has a characteristic hemp odor and a nutty/”earthy” taste, the flavor produced by hemp oil is much stronger than that of other typical carrier liquids. Hemp seed oil has a 3:1 ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids, a balance that has been shown to promote overall health. Hemp seeds are also loaded with proteins, antioxidants, amino acids, as well as many other beneficial compounds.

Essentially, there is no wrong choice when it comes to comparing these three popular ingredients. None of the ingredients addressed take away from CBD's effectiveness.
